Project Objectives

The main goal of the PIONIER-LAB project is to provide ICT technology support for users conducting research beyond the ICT domain, thereby enabling interdisciplinary research in key areas within the PIONIER-LAB ecosystem. Additionally, the project aims to facilitate research in critical areas of new technologies related to social Internet, secure e-commerce, and next-generation networks. These goals will be achieved through the development of an integrated ecosystem of advanced research infrastructures, based on core backbone infrastructure and a range of specialized infrastructures, including those for security, transactional systems, and multimedia.

Gdańsk University of Technology's CI TASK will modernize or establish eight state-of-the-art laboratories:

  • Metropolitan Area Network Laboratory (including renewal of the TASK network),
  • Time and Frequency Standard Laboratory,
  • Smart Campus Laboratory as part of Smart City – development of a technology demonstrator for use in a smart city, e.g. covering the entire campus with a “radio umbrella” enabling wireless data acquisition from sensors, video monitoring, thermal energy monitoring and control, traffic monitoring, lighting control,
  • Regional Living Labs for ICT-inspired Innovations,
  • Cloud Services Laboratory,
  • Multiscale Simulation Laboratory,
  • e-Training Laboratory and Services (focused on PIONIER-LAB and ICT-driven innovations),
  • Pre-incubator services – virtual office and shared services (legal and accounting), group work, telementoring.
