Project Description

Continuation of the EuroCC project. EuroHPC is a joint initiative of European countries and the European Commission (EuroHPC JU) aimed at building exascale computing infrastructure in Europe. EuroHPC aggregates HPC (High Performance Computers) activity into two pillars. Pillar I, scheduled for purchase until 2020, consists of three pre-exascale supercomputers and five petascale supercomputers for scientists and industry. Pillar II is a comprehensive research and innovation plan aimed at adapting research and software issues for the computational capabilities planned to be acquired in Pillar I. One of the activities of Pillar II is the establishment of national EuroHPC competence centers. The installation of exascale supercomputers is planned for the years 2023-2025. The project aims to build national HPC competence. These centers are a natural extension of Digital Innovation Hubs. Their main task will be to support scientific research in industry involving researchers from academia and using the computational resources of EuroHPC supercomputers. A key aspect of industry support will also be knowledge transfer in the use of supercomputing resources, finding and matching partners for joint industry and science research, scaling research and software issues to exascale requirements, as well as training and development of technical skills in large-scale computing. The project promotes the use of supercomputing infrastructure by government agencies, universities, and businesses.
