Access to CI TASK Computing Resources

CI TASK computing resources – High-Performance Computing (HPC) – are available only to registered users who have been granted a computing grant or have been designated as participants in an existing grant.

Free access to HPC resources is available to individuals conducting scientific research and affiliated with a scientific institution, as defined by the Act of October 8, 2004, on the principles of financing science.

A CI TASK computing grant may be awarded for the implementation of a scientific research project that meets the requirements for the use of CI TASK computing resources. The project may include, among others, own research, preparation of a scientific publication, work toward a scientific degree or title, as well as tasks carried out under other external projects.

Access procedure for HPC:

  • Creating an account in the SSO (Single Sign-On) system: During registration, it is necessary to provide an email address from an academic or research institution domain. Applications using private email addresses will not be considered.
  • Selecting and submitting the appropriate online application: The forms are available in the electronic system and must be completed according to the provided guidelines.

Questions and Answers

I did not receive the confirmation email for the address provided during SSO account registration.

Check your spam or junk folders (e.g., "Spam", "Junk Mail", "Unwanted") as the message might have been filtered there. Folder names may vary depending on your email client. In some cases, manual subscription to the folder may be required for it to become visible.

If the message still hasn't arrived, contact your local email administrator, who can check whether the message was blocked or rejected at the server level.

I am a graduate or PhD student – can I apply for a grant independently for my research?

Yes, provided that you receive support from your academic supervisor, head of department, or institute in which your research is conducted.

This support must be confirmed with a signature and stamp in the appropriate field of the "CI TASK Resource User Registration Form," which is generated after completing the registration form.

I am a diploma student (master's, engineering, bachelor's thesis) – can I apply for a grant independently for my diploma project?

No. The computing grant application should be submitted by the thesis advisor. This means the advisor must complete the "CI TASK Resource User Registration Form." Once the advisor's grant is approved, the diploma student must also fill out a dedicated registration form.

Is the use of CI TASK resources free of charge?

The use of resources (HPC, applications/software, data storage) provided by CI TASK is free of charge for scientific purposes.

CI TASK grants computing access for the execution of submitted scientific research projects.

I plan to use software XXXX – in the "Required software" field, is a statement like "please compile and install software XXXX on the supercomputer" sufficient?

First, please contact the HPC administrators (kdm@task.gda.pl) to determine the installation details.

Do I automatically receive an account on the access server once my application is accepted?

Yes, once the application ("CI TASK Resource User Registration Form") is approved, the user receives a computing grant and access to the login server at kdm.task.gda.pl.

Is the login server used as a terminal to access the system externally and then log in to specific computing machines (supercomputers)?

Exactly.

Computation duration – is a period of, for example, 6 months acceptable?

Yes.

How should the grant be reported/settled?

Each year, or upon project completion if shorter, we request a report containing information about publications, conference presentations, and any work/events where results of calculations or simulations carried out using CI TASK resources were presented. This is the only required form of reporting (see: How to settle a computing grant?).
