Project summary

The project covers the structural health monitoring of Additively manufactured materials and structures using nondestructive technologies like ultrasound guided waves and electromechanical impedance techniques. Plates printed of various materials and using different printing techniques, patterns, or paramaters (e.g., infill densities) are being manufactured and scrutinzed experimentally with and without the existence of damage. Full wave-field measurements of the wave propagations are being measured using a scanning laser Doppler vibrometer (SLDV) to visualize the waves and understand their behavior and characteristics in such materials. Numerical simulations are also sought to have a better understanding and to help perform damage identification and work on digital twinning and machine learning applications.
